Interpreters: The Heart of Exploration

“The chief aim of Interpretation is not instruction, but provocation.”

— Freeman Tilden

At Exploration Children’s Museum, interpreters play a vital role alongside our collections and exhibits. They are the people who design and deliver our interpretive educational programs, serving as the bridge between children and their environment.

Our Mission as Interpreters

Our goal is to create an environment that inspires children to think creatively and actively engage with their surroundings. By respecting each child’s individuality, we encourage personal initiative, active involvement, and collaboration.

Principles of Cultural Heritage Interpretation

Guided by the core principles of cultural heritage interpretation, our interpreters aim to:

  • Process objects that are familiar, intriguing, and engaging for children and their families.
  • Spark interest and curiosity, motivating further discovery and learning.
  • Provide information without formal teaching or structured guided tours.
  • Reveal the stories and people behind the objects and information.
  • Adopt multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to explore each subject deeply.
  • Encourage children to expand their knowledge through their experiences, fostering personal understanding and connections.

By focusing on provocation rather than instruction, our interpreters ensure that every child’s journey at Exploration is filled with curiosity, creativity, and discovery.
